Spring Show
On Saturday, May 15, 2010, over 80 skaters participated in FMC Ice Sports Natick annual ice show Glide thru the 80's held at the William L. Chase arena. Skaters ranging in age from two to sixty displayed their skating skills to the neon hits of the 1980's.
Thirteen group numbers, comprised of members from our classes and competitive skaters, entertained the crowd with nostalgic beats. Costumes reflected the 80's with their vibrant colors and unique 80's look. As always, skaters from our tot classes stole the show, skating to children's music from that era.
This year, skaters in the Ice Dancing classes dazzled with the Cha-cha set to Everybody Dance Now. Displaying their newly acquired skills, they showed the audience that ice dancing can be hip and not just for adults any more. Coaches Laura Gayton and Rob Rafuse, who also performed a dance number together, were very proud of their new students. "They really came together and did a great job. We're very proud of them," said Laura.
"This was so much fun!" soloist Nicole Eckert exclaimed after she finished skating her solo number to Joan Jett's I Love Rock n Roll. Eighteen soloists skating in the Saturday afternoon performance included an adult skater and two invited members with special needs. Each of the soloists chose their own music and costume keeping with the show theme.
A highlight of the day's events were the the two competitive numbers performed by the synchronized skating teams, The Magic Edge and The Cutting Edge. After their performances, team members were presented trophies by their repective coaches in recognition of their successful competitive season. Both teams skated together for an exciting finale number to Michael Jackson's "Thriller". The number electrified the crowd and was a fitting finale to another successful show.
At the conclusion of the show, skaters wearing commemorative Glide thru the 80's T-shirts and their families enjoyed a reception hosted by The Skating Club of Natick. Parent Michelle Major stated, "The show was really fantastic and well run. The skaters have come a long way since January. Look out worlds!"
Over 50 skaters representing FMC Ice Sports Natick will now focus on preparing for the ISI World Championships held in July.
